No, I don’t think I got injured…other than my feelings. For a while I was kind of nervous about being there because one time they threatened to shoot us. They lined us all up…we refused to go to work on the railroad. We just said we weren’t going to work until we got more food. It wasn’t long that the trucks came up and they had machine guns. They marched us out and lined us all up. They said,
“We’re going to start shooting at this end until we get to that end, until you decide you’re going to work or not.” Well, I was clear on the other end, so I wasn’t too worried right then. But they didn’t  hoot. The guys all decided that they better go to work. They put us back in the barracks and we didn’t go until the next day. Sunday we usually got that day off, but they took us in Sunday because we
didn’t work that one day.
Using storytelling and art, EVAC bridges the gap between civilians and veterans by educating the public about life in the military.
